Islamabad United half out for 20 runs

Batting first after winning the toss, Islamabad got off to a bad start, losing five wickets for just 20 runs. Lahore’s opening bowler Shaheen Afridi caused Islamabad’s first loss by catching Usman Khawaja off the wicketkeeper on his third ball. His late outswing kept the batsmen upset. On the next ball, he LBWed Rohail Nazir but could not get the wicket as he had nine balls.

But in the second over, James Faulkner noticed Rohail Nazir’s weakness and made him LBW. Colin Monroe also fell to Faulkner when an incoming ball LBWed him. Before the end of the power play, Hussain Talat tried to make a big shot on Faulkner’s ball but he was caught out in the square league. Haris Rauf caught captain Shadab Khan in his first over after the power play.

Thus, only half of Islamabad’s team was out for 20 runs. But then Iftikhar Ahmed and Asif Ali’s 123-run partnership helped Shadab XI. Asif Ali bravely faced the Lahore bowlers and scored a half-century off just 28 balls. Ben Dunk missed an opportunity to get him out on Rashid Khan’s ball when the ball got out of his hand while stopping.

Asif Ali finally hit 75 off 43 balls with the help of five sixes and was hit by Shaheen Afridi while Iftikhar Ahmed could not complete his half-century and was sent back to the pavilion by Haris Rauf for 49 runs. In this way, Asif and Akhtar got their team out of difficult situations and gave them a good target of 153 runs.

U-turn of a good start in Lahore

Lahore had a good start chasing the target of 153 runs but later the game changed completely. Lahore openers Fakhar Zaman and captain Sohail Akhtar scored 55 runs in the power play. But then league sniper Fawad Ahmed sent Sohail Akhtar back to the league with an individual score of 34.

Zeeshan Ashraf, the third-ranked batsman in the next over, was run out after scoring just one run. Fakhar Zaman remained on the crease but Mohammad Musa caught Mohammad Hafeez on the first ball of the 11th over while playing a pull shot which was Lahore’s third wicket to fall.
